C.A.G.E. to come back soon! - January 23, '99 by JoseQ
In an Exclusive update, Larry Bank from the fast C.A.G.E. Emulator has sent us some news for you to chew on while this emulator comes out. For those who are not familiar with this emulator, it is a Windows based emulator with incredible performance. In his statement, Larry states that he has been feverishly working on his new (potentially commercial) emulator project. If the deal falls through however, then he will be releasing a freeware CAGE update, otherwise, there will be no more freeware. At any rate, here's the list of games that have been added to it since the last release:

  • RallyX, New RallyX
  • Targ
  • Super Breakout
  • Galaga
  • Avalanche
  • Bandido
  • Astro Invader
  • Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Brothers
  • Galaxians, Moon Cresta

Everything is fully emulated with sound except for Donkey Kong where he is still at work on the 8039 emulator. The NAMCO sound emulation has been totally cleansed and the Z80 and 6809 has been rewritten for even more speed! This performance improvements mean that CAGE might even surpass the performance of DOS Retrocade! How's that for fast? He has just completed new optimizations that might even boost by up to 30% some games. Some other games that are planned to be added in the next few days/weeks are:

  • Xevious, DigDug (same hardware as Galaga)
  • Missile Command
  • Centipede, Millipede
  • Scramble, Amidar, Frogger
  • Pengo
  • Zaxxon
  • Astro Blaster
  • Star Wars

He still doesn't know when the negotiations will be finished but it should not be too long from now. Whatever the outcome, we should expect to see more of this very fast emulator pretty soon. I'll keep you posted!
